The 40th Anniversary of the Discovery of the J "Particle, initiated by the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and organized by UNESCO International Centre forTheoretical Physics (Asia Pacific), will be held in the Academic Hall of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on October 18th . We will invite Mr. Ting zhao-zhong, a Nobel Prize winner, to give a related report. The conference will discuss the discovery process of particle J, the characteristics of basic scientific research and its future development trend.

J/bits of meson is a subatomic particle, belong to the meson, by a charm quark and one of the charm quark. It is the first excited state in a subatomic particle composed of charm quarks and anti-charm quarks. It has a mass of 3096.9 mev /c2 and an average life span of 7.2×10-21 seconds. On November 10th , 1974, the team led by Pro. Samuel C.C.Ting, a Chinese-American physicist, discovered a new type of elementary particle in the blue haven national laboratory in Appalachian, New York, US. The new particle is unique in that it has no charge and has a life span 1,000 times longer than the new particles discovered in recent years. Pro. Samuel C.C.Ting named the new dimeson as "J" particle. The discovery took particle physics in a new direction and won the 1976 Nobel Prize in physics.
The discovery of J particle is an important contribution to the research on the accuracy of quantum electrodynamics, the properties of leptons, the properties of vector particles, gluon injection phenomenon and z-jerk interference.
